 The
Serial PC Watchdog is an internal device that is used to monitor a
PC in order to ensure maximum system availability. If the hardware
or software locks up then this device can automatically reset the PC. This
device is designed to monitor PCs used in critical applications such
as: File Servers, Voice Mail Systems, ISP systems, industrial applications,
etc. The idea is to make sure the PC is always available and running;
especially for systems that are not continuously monitored. The
Serial PC Watchdog board ships with TSRs and utility programs for control
of the board. Source code is provided for all included software. The
PC Watchdog works with most any operating system on a PC. Software
for DOS and Win 95-98-ME-NT-2000 & XP is included. It also
has LINUX support.
The
card has the following features:
- Now
supports ATX PCs without a reset switch.
- Reset
adapter boards available for some Dell computers.
- Acts
as a pass-through serial port with standard PC DB-9 connectors. Allows
you to keep a MODEM connected.
- Monitors
the PC serial port for control line activity (TxD, DTR, & RTS)
from the PC.
- Monitors
the Ring Indicator (RI) line from a MODEM on the serial port for
excessive rings without an answer.
- Can
be used right from the box without any support programs if you already
have constant serial port activity.
- Time-out
delays available from 5 seconds to 2 hours.
- Also
has a Command Mode that allows a user program to exert additional
control over the PC Watchdog.
- Two
externally visible LEDs show status of PC Watchdog.
- Has
an on-board temp sensor that can be read by user program.
- PC
Watchdog can also reset the PC on an over-temp condition such as
a fan failure.
- On-board
buzzer sounds at reset and over-temp condition.
- PC
Watchdog has second relay that a user can control to reset another
PC as an example. Reset

- Programmable
power-on delay to allow the PC to complete its initialization sequence.
- Can occupy
an empty slot in PC cabinet. Gets its power from standard disk drive
connector. Standard "Y" cable included.
- Comes
with Reset Cable and 6' DB-9 M-F serial cable.
